Later that day they gave us a courtesy call to let us know that some storms were coming in and if we were coming in from the west we'd be hitting some significant rain.

I would recommend staying in Dallas Northeast Campground in Caddo Mills, TX. It was formerly a KOA. It's out in the country but only 40 miles (45 minutes no traffic) to Fair Park in Dallas. I don't know of any close RV parks or parking areas to Fair Park for you to stay. Caddo Mills is at least basically a straight shot into Dallas from the east.
